Wills are included among documents for which registration is optional under Section 18 of the Registration Act, 1908.
Registration can create an official record and may provide an additional layer of documentary evidence. It is not mandatory merely because the Will deals with immovable property.
Registration does not automatically cure lack of testamentary capacity, coercion, fraud, forgery, unclear ownership or improper execution.
Sub-Registrar processes are administered locally and may change. Check the current requirements in the relevant state or registration office before attending.

You do not need everything figured out before you begin. Start with your family and asset details, and ask for help whenever a question is unclear.
